The Wanderer’s Wife – My Quilting Group and Back to Square One

On March 6, 2022 by Pam

Can I share how much I love my quilting group and the friendship we have developed? We have SO MUCH FUN and we change our minds….A LOT and we don’t always agree and we learn from each other every. single. day. We had missed a couple of weeks because life interfered. We were all back together this week and now we have decided that our plan of creating one section at a time is flawed. Why is it flawed? Well, the sizes of our blocks do not always match what is suggested in the pattern. Why? I believe it is because we are flawed humans just trying our best and laughing a lot while we do it. I also feel that measuring a lot of blocks to the 7/8 of an inch can lead to slight errors. Although, I do want to say that we have mastered the 1/4″ seam – we learned about how our machine can be set to make the seam with the proper foot. Doing all the blocks first will allow us to “make it work” when it comes to assembling our quilt.

Picking colours is SO much fun – we help each other, dig through boxes of our stash, shake our heads – applaud each other’s choices and produce beautiful blocks. We ALL agree that picking fabric is our favourite part of the whole process.

We have been doing some calculations that have allowed us to square our blocks as we put them together. I think this is helping with our final block sizes. I acutally had my block measure correctly this time – but, that was a first. LOL

Keep following us to see if we continue with our plan and to watch our blocks and quilt unfold – the choices of colour, the fun of helping each other remember what size piece we are cutting at the moment – because you can read it and then walk across the room and forget what you are doing. Having a good friend to re-read the measurements is part of the joy of quilting with friends – no judgement, just support and encouragement.
