Do you have WALKING on your to-do list?
On April 18, 2022 by PamWalking every day – rain or shine, hot or cold – can change your life. When my boys were little, we walked every day – morning and afternoon – we bundled up, used umbrellas, strollers, bikes, whatever worked to combine fresh air with movement. All you need is 30 minutes a day on most days of the week to improve and maintain your overall health – more is always better. I combine walking with a 30 minute workout from http://hasfit.com and we use our walking time to connect and talk as a couple.
Walking increases your cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness (heart and lung) reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. Walking helps lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as controlling diabetes and strengthening your muscles and joints and bones. Body fat is reduced by walking. This happens when you walk briskly – meaning you can still talk (but not sing) and you may “puff” slightly.
I don’t count steps but, I always take the stairs whenever possible and I walk to complete errands that are close by. We are godparents to our little dog, Madigan – having a dog definitely gets you walking. Walk up hills, wear hand weights and keep increasing the distance and time that you walk. Buy yourself a good pair of shoes and get going!
