A Snuggly Flannel Blanket (that is easy to make)
On November 12, 2022 by PamA couple of years ago, I made a “rag”quilt for our uncle. I have posted the link below: https://noroom4phonies.com/2021/10/22/rag-quilt-for-uncle-walt/
I love these cozy blankets because they are layers of felt, with batting of any thickness in between and they are easy to make and a great gift (which these blankets will be this Christmas).
You can use up countless scraps of flannel, as well as scraps of batting. I bought a few special pieces of felt to add to the fun of these blankets because they are for two little boys but, generally, you can just dig in your felt collection and make it work.
You start by cutting 6 inch pairs of felt (I made my blankets 6×9 squares) and then cutting 1 piece of batting (around 4 inches square) to go between the two pieces of felt. This is one of the only times when you sew with wrong sides together (and the batting in between).
Then, you just quilt a pattern on each square, sew them iin rows of 6 with a generous 1 inch seam allowance. Sew the rows together and then clip, clip, clip until you have a beautiful blanket. I always sew a 1 inch seam around the complete outside of the blanket just to hold everything together.
