March 2023 Reading List

On 2023-04-02 by Pam

March was a great month for reading. It is very difficult for me to determine which book is my favourite. I read 11 books this month – and I have read 37 books so far this year. My goal for 2023 is 150 books (I read 138 last year) so, I have completed 24% of my goal. I can often read 3 or 4 books a week in summer so, all is not lost. As soon as it is warm enough to sit outside, I can be found on the front porch or in the back yard beside the pool with a book. I also bike and walk alot – with headphones – listening.

Here is my list from March – I have ordered them from my most favourite down…but, I truly enjoyed every one.

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
I have fallen very much in love with this author. I read The Poisonwood Bible last month. This book, inspired by David Copperfield, is the story of lost boys, abandoned and fighting to survive. A brilliant book, told with Demon’s voice.

Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan
This story is both stirring and shocking, taking you through friendship, loneliness and trauma. The themes and story also revolve around bee keeping – adding so much intrigue to the theme and story.

True Reconciliation: How to Be a Force for Change by Jody Wilson-Raybould
If you want to understand the truth about the history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, and how you can learn, understand and act – take the time to read this book. It is life changing.

Three Sisters, Three Queens by Philippa Gregory
Incredible historical fiction, three sisters, three queens. Betrayal, danger, loss and passion are definite themes of this book.

A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah
A boy soldier in Sierra Leone lives through a devastating war.

Essential Teachings on Love by Richard Rohr
Another brilliant, thoughtful book illuminating Rohr’s lifelong journey of learning how we love others by loving God.

The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas
This is actually a young adult novel – a response to a police shooting of a black man.

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg
Focusing on patterns that shape every aspect of our lives can help you achieve success because you transform your habits.

State of Terror by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Louise Penny
A Secretary of State thriller with international intrigue with lots of “inside” details.

Lucky by Marissa Stapley
What happens when you spend your whole life in a lie?

Tell Her Story by Margot Hunt
The story of a true crime podcast in a small town, with an impossible secret.
