Popcorn Anyone?
On June 5, 2023 by PamI am continuing my “Year of Dishcloths” journey this year. These popcorn dishcloths actually used the “popcorn stitch”. As I was crocheting it, I did think, several times, about how time consuming this stitch was – all to wash dishes with. The end result is beautiful and fun. Again, I reinforce that working through this project has introduced me to SO MANY new stitches and given me fun gifts to pass along.
I recently read that happiness is not round in things you possess, but in what you have the courage to release (Nathaniel Hawthorne). The beauty of handmade items is in their imperfection and in the love that goes into creating them, one stitch at a time.

These are the simple stitches that are part of this dishcloth. In the far left picture, you can really see the popcorn stitches. I even found buttery yellow/white yarn to make the popcorn look realistic. The main (red and yellow) popcorn continue is just simple single crochet stitches.

The pattern suggested actually crocheting chains and then sewing them on but, I decided to free-hand the letters with double cotton yarn. They are far from perfect but, they work and I am very happy with the results. Sometimes the risk is well worth it.
