Turtles….All the Way Down – Baby Quilt
On June 7, 2023 by PamQuilting is a way of giving back. Most of my quilts go out into the world and they are not perfect…they are handmade. This little quilt will be sent out once the a new little one is born, all the way to British Columbia. I used some fabric that I had and some that I bought – I love the different colours of turtle. The blocks were pieced together with a 1 – 1/2 inch stripe in between and then sewn together to create the pattern. I machine-quilted it by using a fancy stitch down the purple lines and across the fabric to make a square design on the back. I used white thread on top and purple thread in the bobbin. I am now working on handing sewing the border on. I used the method where the border is folded over – so you make the backing about 3 inches wider on each side – fold over twice, press and clip and miter the corners. (There are lots of videos on mitering corners – it is not easy but, once you get on to a way of doing it, you just need patience and stamina).
Everyone wants significance in their job, hobby, family, etc. I think the importance lesson of significance is that it is not about what we get but, what we give to others. What brings meaning to your life? How do you show that you care and make a positive contribution to the world around you?
I am choosing my way today – my little turtle baby quilt.
