Chive Blossom Vinegar and a Tribute to Re-connection with Jim and Melissa…

On 2023-06-11 by Pam

This year, we have been expanding our podcasts by inviting guests to join us. Coming up, you will hear MORE STORIES by Melissa and Jim Wright. Part of this podcast has been re-connecting to Jim and Melissa. I went to high school with Jim and we worked together for many years in our former jobs. We have purchased honey from Jim’s bees and Melissa’s heirloom tomato plants for the past several years. This “podcast” adventure started with me teasing him about all his stories but, after we spent an evening with them at their home in Wainfleet, we knew this couple had some of the best stories we had ever heard.
We had them to our home – Melissa and I share a love of all things gardening; however, Melissa is full of knowledge and expertise that I, most definitely lack. When she arrived, she said, you should make some chive blossom vinegar – those flowers are ready to go and so, I did. The pictures of the finished Chive Blossom Vinegar is featured with the beautiful flowers that Melissa and Jim brought, arranged lovingly by Melissa, a true flower genius.

Below are all the ingredients you need (and the actual chives are extra – just if you want).

I harvested the flowers from my garden, along with some chives.

I rolled/pressed the blossoms, one cup at a time with my rolling pin to bring out the flavour and frangrance. I filled the jars with 1 1/2 cups of vinegar and sealed them up – for two weeks.

In two weeks (after the are stored away from direct light and heat), I will strain them out and have beautiful chive flavoured vinegar for salads and dips this summer.

Thanks, Melissa….for friendship is about connecting and sharing what we know and love.
