There are 92 days until Christmas…
On 2023-09-24 by PamHow many of you have had a recent conversation about how time flies? When I was a principal and I asked staff what support they needed, they always said MORE TIME! We are always wishing for time to move faster (say, when we are waiting for a call from the doctor or for someone to arrive for a visit) or we are wishing for time to slow down (like on a vacation or when you are watching your children grow up). The thing about time – it is finite and we can’t make it go slower or faster – even though it feels like it is either speeding along or crawling along.
We read books about managing time – how to keep track of how we spend our time – and strategies that we use to help us accomplish more and not waste our time. Do you keep lists or prioritize tasks – do you think about what is urgent and not so urgent on your “list”? One of the things that I have always done is to keep a list and always tackle the task that is hardest or that I want to avoid first – like vacuuming before reading a book or laundry before sewing or knitting. I also believe that if you stay organized, you accomplish more. I have always had a routine when it comes to cleaning the house – kitchen appliances on Monday, sheet changing and laundry on Tuesday, vacuuming and dusting on Wednesday or Thursday, bathrooms and floor washing on Fridays. I also follow the 5 minute rule – I spend 5 minutes twice a day tidying up – decluttering, wiping counters or cleaning out a cupboard or organizing an area of the house that has taken on a life of its own.
Most of all, I try to practice mindfulness – the fine art of living your moments to the best of my ability. Being aware that life is too short for drama or worrying about who likes or doesn’t like you and just doing your best to contribute by making the world a better place for those in your circle. Make the most of every minute and do what you love.
All this started with my counting down the days until Christmas and the next washcloths are all about winter and Christmas. Stay tuned and follow my crocheting journey right up until 2024!!
