October 2023 Book List

On November 1, 2023 by Pam

I have 19 books left to read to reach my 150 book goal for 2023. With travel, I did not read quite as many books but, I did manage to read 10 books this month. Spending a few days on the beach between Spain and Portugal gave me a chance to read, nap and listen to the ocean. I cannot think what my life would be like without reading…
Every part of our body needs exercise to stay healthy, and the same goes for our brain. Reading gives it regular exercise and keeps it healthy and sound.
When you read a great story, all your stress seems to slip away and relax you since you tend to travel mentally in a different realm. Sometimes while reading, you come across valuable advice or solutions to your problems.
You can increase your knowledge and expand your vocabulary – fiction and non-fiction books can help us understand other cultures, historical time periods, etc.
Reading improves your memory and your critical thinking skills. It is a free source of entertainment that gives you a way to shut off the TV and do something that is tranquil and gives you lots of great ideas to think and talk about. For students in school and adults as well, reading improves your writing skills.

How many times have you been able to say – have you read this book?

The Skilled Helper: A Problem-Management and Opportunity-Development Approach to Helping by Gerard Egan
This book si written for counselors but there are SO MANY amazing tips for anyone who is involved in trying to help or support someone in their life, or at work with a practical three stage model for helping everyone become independent and confident in their own ability to grow and manage every aspect of their lives.

Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver
This was an amazing listen – the lives of a family dealing with health and financial issues collides with death and life and the history of the community they live in.

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine
This was a suspense novel from start to finish – a wealthy couple and a woman who wants to destroy them. It is your typical thriller with shocking turns and dark secrets.

Gamble by Anita Waller
Who is responsible for the murder of two women in this community?

Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself by Nedra Glover Tawwab
This is the best book on boundaries that I have read – exceptional examples and strategies for every aspect of life.

For The Love of Friends by Sara Goodman Confino
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to put your life experiences in a blog?

The Woman in My Home by Diana Wilkinson
A bizarre story taking identity swapping to a whole new level.

The Boat House by Keri Beevis
When a huge secret sets out to destroy you, being careful may not be enough.

Twenty Years Later by Charlie Donlea
A secret past wrapped up in a 911 tragedy makes for a sister looking for closure 20 years later.

Don’t Forget to Write by Sara Goodman Confino
Marilyn Kleinman is a young Jewish girl growing up in the 1960’s and her relationship with “Ada” who changes her life.
