A Case for Your Sunglasses

On 2024-04-24 by Pam

This is a simple pattern – it took a bit to figure out and adapt but, once I did, it was very straight forward.
Start by cutting outer and lining fabrics 9- 1/2 x 8 inches
Cut pieces of heavy felt to 6 x 6-1/2 inches
Cut fabric from the outer fabric for the tabs 2 inches wide x 2 – 3/4 inches tall
swivel clips (I ordered mine from Amazon)
1 metal measuring tape cut into 3 inch strips and rounded on each end and taped
Spray on fabric glue

Glue the felt onto the wrong side of the outer fabric with a 3/4 inch border.

Place the lining and outer fabric right sides together. Create the tab by folding the tab fabric into the center and then fold again and sew to create tab….loop around the clip and then place the clip and tab on the inside and pin. You will be sewing around the outside (1/4 inch seam) and leaving an opening at the bottom to flip it right-side out (the tab will also flip right side out if it is placed between the 2 fabrics inside) DO NOT DO IT LIKE THE PICTURE ABOVE…PLACE IT INSIDE SO IT FLIPS OUT WHEN YOU FLIP THE CASE RIGHT SIDE OUT.

Sew all the way around the outside (to close the opening in the bottom), as close to the edge as possible.

Quilt – free style – across the top to hold the felt in place.

Fold down at the top to create a pocket to hold the metal strips from the measuring tape.

Fold the case in half and sew all the way around, leaving the top open – make sure that the metal pieces have been pushed far enough from the edge that they don’t get caught in the seam (they will break the needle).
