The Beautiful Pond
On July 8, 2024 by PamWhen we golf at Fox Run, we are surrounded by beautiful ponds. It makes me think of teaching “pond life” when I was an elementary school teacher. The elementary school teacher is an “expert” in many subjects, including Science. I remember fondly taking students to Fireman’s Park in Niagara Falls and Chippawa Park in Welland, as well as St. John’s and various other “ponds” around the peninsula. Searching for frogs, talking about ecosystems, drawing life cycles, collecting water samples, drawing lily pads and reeds that stood by the water’s edge. The importance of “experiencing” the pond was such an important part of learning. A pond is an ecosystem and we need to understand how our world works if we are going to preserve it and help it survive. So, visit a pond, appreciate the scum of algae on the top, the reeds growing around it, the bugs that swim across it, the fish and frogs within it and listen for a bullfrog.
