What is your passion?
On August 27, 2024 by PamThis August, I am finishing over 300 km of cycling. A couple of years ago, we purchased new bikes from Downtown Bike Hounds in Hamilton, Ontario and it was life changing. Owning a great bike is essential to enjoying cycling. We also bought top of the line helmets and installed 2 water bottle holders on each bike. We use “SKRATCH” (an electrolyte powder that we add to our water for longer rides) and carry energy bars. We wear bike shorts and I wear gloves and we have re-chargeable front and back lights that we use during the day so that we can be seen coming (and going). We have phone mounts on our bikes so that we can run our STRAVE to keep track of miles and have a phone available for emergencies. We always make sure our tires are pumped up and we take our bikes back to Downtown Bike Hounds for regular maintenance. Doing all these things allows us to really get the most out of our cycling experience.
So, before the snow flies, I know that we will have about 10 opportunities to try some new cycling routes.
#1 Grand River Cycling Loop is a moderately challenging route through Brantford/Paris of about 50 km.
#2 Cambridge to Paris Rail Trail is a wide route for cyclist and runners of 21 km.
#3 Waterfront Trail in the Spencer Smith Park, Hamilton is a 23.5 km ride connecting Hamilton and
Burlington.
#4 Hamilton to Brantford Rail trail is a 35 km ride through Dundas Valley Conservation Area.
#5 Niagara Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake is a 26 km ride along a wine route.
#6 Hidden Valley Park to Pier 4 Park is a 19 km ride out and back in Burlington through the Royal
Botanical Gardens .
#7 Bike Loop from Wellington in Prince Edward County is a 27 km loop.
#8 Woodbine Beach Loop – Beaches in Toronto loop from College is 43 km on the water.
#9 Port Colborne Friendship Trail to Fort Erie is a 20 km trail running parallel to Lake Erie.
#10 Welland Canal Path from Port Colborne to St. Catharines is 42 km (one way) along the Welland Canal.
There are SO many opportunities for biking and hiking in Ontario so, get out there and get ACTIVE and find your PASSION.
