September Cycling – Week 2
On September 13, 2024 by PamTonight, we did an evening ride on the Hamilton Waterfront Trail with Sebastian. It is a beautiful ride and we finished off at Planted on Locke Street. Planted is gluten free and vegan and they have the best eggplant fish and chips – as well as some amazing donuts – crullers and cherry fritters. Our total ride was 18 km – bringing this week’s total to 73 km.
We rode past tug boats and pirate ships, geese and swans and ducks and the sun was setting beautifully as we pulled up for dinner. Safety first – Hamilton boasts many bike lanes and we had lights to guide us home.
I have been listening to the podcast, Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She talks to women in their 80’s and 90’s and asks them for their “wisdom”. They ALL say that you must keep moving to stay healthy and they ALL work out in some form or another – walking, yoga, weights, etc. It has inspired me to continue on my journey to being as healthy and active as I possibly can be.
Life is hard and beautiful and amazing all at the same time and all of the women she talks to have certainly had their lows (some VERY low) and their highs but, the line they use is “I’m still here” and they laugh and look back on their lives with joy – they keep moving, writing, thinking, sharing and bringing love and light into the world. Simple but, beautiful. LIFE IS LIKE A BYCICLE – TO KEEP YOU BALANCE, YOU HAVE TO KEEP MOVING.
So, I will cycle and I will keep trying new trails and having new experiences (and yes, you do get to eat fish and chips and a great, big donut when you cycle 18 km).
