The Granny Square Chicken
On November 17, 2024 by PamAre you looking for a simple little project with Granny Squares? This is such a fun project and would be great to use with young children who want to learn to crochet and have a fun project to work on. As you might know if you follow my blog, I am a big fan of granny squares and they have become very popular lately for creating sweaters and blankets (you could say they have made a comeback).
The pattern for the little chicken can be found here:

I crocheted the granny squares and then sewed three sides together, added the eyes, stuffed and sewed the tail closed. I used a whip stitch to sew it closed. I added the crown, the beak and the tail feathers.
You can use all different sizes of granny squares and all different styles of squares. The finished product could be a key chain by adding a key ring, an ornament by adding a hanging loop, scent sachet by stuffing it with a sachet of lavender, a pin cushion, or just a fun little chicken “gift”.
