A Simple Sewing Gift…The Pillow Case
On December 29, 2024 by PamWith the Post Office back in business, there are a couple of gifts that I still want to send across the country. Aunt Sue lives in Winnipeg and we just got back (in November) from a visit for her 90th birthday. Aunt Sue is Charles’ dad’s sister and we have found a special bond – writing letters back and forth and the occasional talk on the phone in between. We have visited Winnipeg a couple of times – to trace the Voth history and to visit Aunt Sue. This was a special visit – 90 is no small feat! We had a wonderful time and I wanted to send something to let her know we are remembering her for the Holidays. This will be more like a Happy New Year gift but, it is sent with love.
I created a pillow case out of fabric scraps that I had. Aunt Sue loves to be thrifty and so she would love the fact that I didn’t buy any fabric and that I am using my “stash”. A pillow case is made with a hem at the top. I fold over twice and sew along the edge and LITERALLY three seams – 2 sides and the bottom. A regular size pillow case is 20×26 inches, Standard is 20×28 inches, Queen is 20×30 inches and King is 20×34 inches – if you are making a body pillow, it is 20×54 inches.
For this pillow case, I sewed 6 inch pieces together and I wasn’t too worried about the size.
