Do you RESET in January?
On January 10, 2025 by PamAfter all of the Christmas decorations are packed away, I always take a look around the house and do a “reset”. This week, I have purged clothing that I haven’t worn in at least 2 years, cleaned up the office and I have done a thorough vacuum/dust and floor washing throughout the whole house. It feels and it smells SO good. As I was doing all this, (including defrosting my freezer) it got me thinking about “cleaning” routines that make my life easier so, here goes…
DAILY
make beds – declutter (usually carrying items upstairs or downstairs) – wiping down counters – laundry – sweeping floors or running the vacuum (I have a rumba and a regular vacuum) – change hand towels and kitchen cloths and towels
WEEKLY
Sunday – just the “daily” stuff
Monday – clean appliances and countertops and water plants
Tuesday – change sheets on the beds and do a BIG laundry that includes LOTS of towels and sheets and a cold (hang up) load
Wednesday – garbage and recycling
Thursday – vacuum and dust
Friday – clean bathrooms and wash floors
Saturday – just the “daily” stuff
EVERY MONTH
clean dishwasher and washing machine – vacuum and sanitize mattresses – clean out the fridge and freezer – descale the coffee maker – check filters throughout the house – wash pillows – wash the shower curtain
Monthly Tasks
January
– defrost your freezer (you can put your food outside on a cold day) – clean out your closets and wardrobes and dressers and revisit/donate items of clothing
February
-clean out storage areas and do some more decluttering and donating
– wash walls and baseboards
March
-clean light fixtures and ceiling fans
-wash curtains, drapes and comforters
March
-clean out garage, outdoor storage sheds
April
-wash out and re-organize kitchen cupboards
May

-polish wood floors
June

So, there you have it – I also add in baking and canning and making meals and gardening – reading, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, etc. I find that if I keep a daily and a monthly list, it helps me NOT feel overwhelmed and I get a lot more done.
