Dishcloths – An Ordinary Routine
On January 14, 2025 by PamEvery night, I spend 20-30 minutes working on a dishcloth. Every week there is a new pattern, new yarn to choose and a slightly different focus but, generally, it is a routine. As you already know, I give these dishcloths away – attaching them to the top of a jar of homemade jam or chutney – and I just keep on with the routine of making them. During times of stress, we often fall back on the routine or the familiar to help ground us and keep us moving forward. The world has a LOT going on right now so, find familiar and challenging routines that keep you moving forward.
Here are a few tips from Kate Bowler…

1. BREATHE – A deep inhale and exhale to remind yourself that this moment will pass.
2. Find something to LAUGH at – even if it is a silly sitcom.
3. MOVE YOUR BODY and shake loose from the weight of it all.
4. Make a small CONNECTION with a tiny human or just smile at a stranger.
5. FOCUS on ONE THING that you can CONTROL. Make a bed, drink a glass of water, clean a closet….
6. Step OUTSIDE – get some sunshine on your face or some wind in your hair.
7. TURN OFF THE NOISE…find silence, take a break from social media – read or write down your thoughts.
8. Find your own RITUAL. Meditate, do some yoga, light a candle, close your eyes for 5 minutes…create…
9. Acknowledge your FEELINGS, know that they have power and feel them…all the way through to the
other side.
10. Let yourself feel SMALL…you are part of a big universe and you don’t carry it all alone.
Take time for self care and believe in the beauty of each day.
