Prairie Points on My Latest Quilt
On 2025-05-08 by PamThe quilt that I just completed included Prairie Points. Prairie points are a quilting technique where fabric square are folded into triangles and used as a decorative edge finish or inserted into seams to add dimension and texture to quilts and other projects. They are a classic alternative to traditional quilt binding and can be used in various ways, including around the edges, in sashing, or as part of a block.
The other parts of the quilt were also challenging, with Y-seams and lots of matching. My experience quilting is paying off and I really always enjoy something that challenges me and puts me in the “zone”. Charles got in the game this time and did the top quilting using the sewing machine. He learned how challenging it is and that the pace for making quilts is slow. I finished off the quilt by blind stitching the edging by folding over and basting the edges along the prairie points first and then stitching all around the quilt. One of the things that keeps our brains young is challenging ourselves to try new things. I am always looking for a new challenge and this was a great one.
This quilt will go off to little Leonardo, who was born just last week. He is a colleague of Charles’ at work and so he wanted to ensure his contribution with the top stitching (and he wanted the challenge). His big sister, Olivia is getting a new sweater and a crocheted rag bunny. Celebrating families is so important and we are hoping that these gifts bring joy to our friends and let them know we are always here for them.
