Keep Calm and Crochet On…

On 2025-05-10 by Pam

“I can calculate motions of celestial bodies, but not the madness of people.” – Sir Isaac Newton

As we watch the happenings in the world unfold, this quote resonates. I try to stay out of the dark hole of watching and following the news all the time. Once a day, I do a deep dive and try to figure out what is going on and, more importantly, if there is anything that I can do to move things forward. We need to face our challenges, not simply fight with each other. I think I say this every day in one context or another, we must require accountability and responsibility from everyone. We need the wealthy to pay their fair share and we need the rest of us to stop waiting for someone to save us. We need to stand up for what is right and be informed and engaged. We need to remember that the pull of the crowd can overwhelm the integrity of the individual. We need to all find our sense of purpose, expect and insist on good governance and transparency. It is hard, really hard, especially now when you can’t even rely on what you read or hear to be true. New media panders and you have to be discerning.
We must trust, but we must verify. We must continue to seek to understand and continue to ask good questions, even when those with power seem to dodge them. We are the ones who are paying, literally and figuratively, and we must stay strong, crochet and carry on.
