Holiday Dishcloths

As I have been walkiung around my neighbourhood, I have become aware that many people are getting ready for Hallowe’e. I think many years of celebrating Hallowe’en as a teacher and principal have toned down my excitement. I do realize that for kids (and some adults) it is SO MUCH FUN. I usually get my pumpkins and ghosts out after Thanksgiving. I tend to give cash instead of candy to the little people in my circle. I like to crochet or knit a few little pumpkins for season and I have taken to embroidering some dishtowels leading up to Thanksgiving/Hallowe’en. I love a celebration and love to see the little costumes and creativity that comes out during the Hallowe’en season.
Hallowe’en is also a reminder that winter is around the corner. The time changes (although none of us know why) and usually all the leaves have fallen from the trees. Between Thanksgiving and Hallowe’en, I usually bake my yearly batch of Christmas cake and start it on its brandy journey to the Christmas season.
I am learning to slow down, take one step at a time and take time to write and think every day – a luxury of retirement, but also a choice.
Every season is a chance to express your creativity. Be yourself, if you love a jack-0-lantern on September 20th, go for it. This world needs individuals and we need to stop judging and focus only on kindness and respect.
