Dishcloths to Celebrate Changing Seasons
Although we officially have about 6 weeks of Autumn left, the frost this morning was a reminder that winter is coming. We woke up to a layer of white on bushes and rooftops and the grass. When I was crocheting these dishcloths, winter seemed a long way in the future and we are still waiting for all the leaves to fall and the trees to bring on their winter bareness.
Hallowe’en is always a reminder that we are heading toward a new season. Usually, it brings rain and wind (at least in the several days after) and the leaves bare and the colour in the garden disappears.
For me, the changing seasons remind us to listen and pay attention. The importance of being in the moment and enjoying the cool crisp Autumn with the warmth of the sun on our face. Always make sure that you get the warmth of the sun on your face at least once a day. Sometimes, I even bundle up and take my book outside, even on a cold winter’s day.
Change also reminds of the importance of patience and the idea that we can feel settled in all the tumult of a winter storm or a thunderstorm. We can hold tight to inner joy.
A new seasons always brings new beginnings, new rhythms and new routines. We no longer head to the pool or beach, we had out for a walk in the woods to enjoy the coloured leaves or even a snowshoe down a forest trail. Embrace the differences, from the ease of summer to the routine of Autumn.
Do you even stop and take a moment for contemplation? On these cool days of transformation from summer to winter, take a moment and think about your routines and rhythms…maybe change is just what you need.
