Finding Joy in Each Moment
On October 18, 2024 by PamI have been doing a lot of reading about mindfulness lately. The idea is that we are “in the moment” with a clear and openhearted presence that reconnects us with life. We need to learn to “pause”, STOP and become fully present and physically still. Often the moment when we most need to pause is exactly when it feels most intolerable to do so. (Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach). In the end, we need to be our own best friend. We cannot allow ourselves to be imprisoned in a trance of unworthiness because it keeps us from moving forward and seeing who we really are. I believe that we need to approach life a bit more slowly (I know, easy for me to say when I don’t have to rush off to work every day). If I could tell my 20 or 30 (and now my 60) self something each day, it would be that you need to pause, even just for a moment so that we respond to circumstances in a more balanced way, a way that is effective. When I was a principal in a school, I would often say that unless someone or something is on fire or someone is injured or unsafe, there is time. You can step back and pause.
There is only one world, the world pressing against you at this minute. The only way to live is by accepting each minute as an unrepeatable miracle. – Storm Jameson
During this beautiful Autumn season, pause and take in the beauty around you. This miracle will never be repeated in the same way.
