Archetypal Feminine Symbols
With Mother’s Day around the corner, I have been thinking a lot about the strength of women and how we can be better at supporting each other as friends, mothers, coworkers, aunts, mothers-in-law, grandmothers, etc. It is always surprising to me about the difference between how men and women are treated in the world. How are some of the things that happen to women still happening in 2026? Reading about the Archetypal Feminine Symbols has really re-enforced the strength of women, their position in society and how we need to lean into each other and our strengths.
The Mother
A good mom possesses many motherly attributes, but probably the most important is that she is loving and nurturing. However, she should also be able to discipline her children when necessary, while still maintaining their love and respect. She establishes clear boundaries and expectations while also providing support and guidance. A good mom is patient and understanding, but she also knows how to assert herself when necessary. She will also be there for the children emotionally, providing support and guidance through both the good times and the bad. One of the most important motherly characteristics and motherly qualities is selflessness. Mothers are always putting their children first and they are always willing to sacrifice their own needs for the sake of their children. A good mom is someone who her children can look up to, admire, and respect. She sets a good example in everything she does and instills important values in her children.
The Maiden
The maiden archetype in literature represents a character at the start of their journey – typically defined by innocence, curiosity, and potential for transformation. Usually young and inexperienced in the ways of the world, the maiden isn’t just naive, but open to growth, making her a powerful symbol of change and self-discovery.
The Queen/Empress
The Queen archetype represents sovereignty, wisdom, and the ability to lead with both strength and compassion. She embodies self-mastery, responsibility, and the power to nurture and protect. The Queen is not just a ruler—she is a guide, a visionary, and a source of stability for those around her.
The Huntress/Wild Woman
She represents a woman who is free-spirited, independent, and in touch with her primal instincts. She is not afraid to embrace her wildness and authenticity!
The Mystic/Sage
– embrace the unknown and the mysteries of life – connect with your spirituality – cultivate a sense of awe and wonder in everyday life – trust your intuition and inner teacher – practice meditation and mindfulness
– stay calm and balanced in difficult situations – embrace solitude and alone time – live a soulful life connected to your inner calling
The Lover
The Lover represents passion, timeless elegance, self esteem, sensuality, beauty, and intimacy. Lover archetype brands friends, lovers, romantic partners, enticing smells, good food, elegant jewelry, and vivid colors as all things love. They see the world through rose tinted glasses and they love to spend time in self expression, sharing their passion, feelings, and emotions.
The Crone/Wise Woman
The Wise Woman archetype, also sometimes referred to as the Crone archetype, embodies a profound depth of experience and wisdom accrued over a lifetime.
